Hypnobirthing

When I first found out I was pregnant, one of the first people I told was a colleague here in UniKL. Her name is Dr. A. I knew her because we had to attend a meeting together at one of the institutes. We were talking about random stuff when I suddenly told her about my pregnancy (I have no idea why I told her). She told me how much she loves the process of being pregnant and urged me to find out about Hypnobirthing/Gentlebirthing. She then told me how she made the decision to give birth to her second child using HVBAC - Home Vaginal Birth After Caesarian (read her story here: My HBVAC Hypnobirth Story

One of the reasons she made this decision was because of her traumatic first child birth experience. She, however, stressed the importance of being well informed about the process of childbirth etc. Anyway, a few days later she emailed me two e-books on gentle birthing and told me that I must read it!

I recently got around to start reading the books she emailed me (Thank God for the iPad...it makes reading e-books so much easier). The first book got me hooked- Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. That book made me feel empowered, ready and excited about giving birth. It made me understand that childbirth does not have to be a painful and traumatic experience...it is supposed to be a wonderful, and natural process (and can be painless with the right techniques). I still haven't finished the book (it's almost 700 pages long) but I'm looking forward to it. I now understand that being positive is very crucial. I know I can do this!

When I told some close family and friends about hynobirthing, some gave very negative reactions. "Xpayah nk lotus birth bagai, sila bersalin di hospital". I guess they do not understand that hypnobirthing is not about giving birth at home, it's just a breathing technique that people use to ease the process of giving birth. I still intend to give birth at the hospital since this will be my first time and I will need all the help I can get, but I would like to learn more about hypnobirthing.

So anyway, my husband and I did some research (well he did most of it) and we decided to register for classes on hypnobirthing. I'm super excited about it...hopefully I will be ready by the time I need to give birth. The first class is in early November and goes on for 5 consecutive weekends :)

Baby, please make the process easy for Mak. We cannot wait to see you...Grow well and healthy ok. Ayah and Mak love you very much :)

  2. iqa comelnya you're both going for classes, hee! i'm with you all the way - hospitals are pretty daunting places to be in to begin with, so i can imagine how weird it would be to give birth in one. at least even if you're giving birth there pun, at least you'll know how to be more relaxed. inshallah you'll be fine. do update us on what you've read abt hypnobirth. very fascinating :)
